Echocardiograpgy

A type of ultrasound scan that looks at the heart and nearby
blood vessels.

An echocardiogram or ‘Echo’ is a type of ultrasound scan that looks at the heart and nearby
blood vessels.

This investigation can help diagnose and monitor many types of heart conditions by
checking the structure and function of the heart by imaging the heart chambers and valves.

The investigation is performed by experienced cardiac physiologists with full BSE
accreditation, qualified to provide full written reports.

Echocardiography can now be offered at North West Independent Hospital as a stand –
alone investigation for adults (16 yrs and older) with referrals accepted directly from GPs or
other hospitals including waiting list initiatives. Referrals are also welcome from all sports
clubs.
