North West Independent Hospital in Ballykelly is one of the longest established private hospitals delivering high quality healthcare since 1989. With advanced surgical and medical facilities our highly qualified staff are committed to providing excellence across a wide range of specialities.
We decided a few months ago to hold a series of GP evenings in the Roe Park Resort in Limavady. We invited local GPs and those within a forty mile radius to attend these talks.
Our first talk was by Mr Zola Mzimba MBChB FRCS (Ed) FRCS (Gen Sur) Consultant General & Vascular Surgeon who spoke on Vnus Closures – the new non surgical way to treat varicose veins. The talk was a great success and all GPs who attended felt it was most beneficial to them.
Our second talk was by Dr Iris Menninger MRCOG CCT Consultant Obstetrician who spoke at length on ovarian cancer.
In January of this year there was a huge campaign on the television highlighting the fact that GPs were finding it difficult to distinguish between the symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Ovarian Cancer.
In her talk, Dr Menninger explained the different methods used to detect the onset of Ovarian Cancer and the avenues open to GPs to have their patients seen and the symptoms checked quickly and efficiently.
Dr Menninger held a question and answering time afterwards and all GPs agreed that it was an excellent and helpful talk on a subject which is so very important to the wellbeing of their patients.
Our next talk will be held in May 2013 and will be on the subject of back pain. More to follow …..
