What is Reversal of SterilisationSterilization reversal is the surgical attempt to restore an individual's ability to have children by reconnecting the tubes that have been blocked by sterilization. These tubes are the vasa deferentia in men and the fallopian tubes in women. Reversal surgery is a major operation. What happens before the Operation You may be checked for past illnesses and may have special tests, to make sure that you are well prepared and that you can have the operation as safely as possible. Please tell the doctors and nurses of any allergies to tablets, medicines or dressings. You will have the operation explained to you and will be asked to fill in an operation consent form. The Operation Local and general anaesthesia may be utilized. A pre-operative laparoscopy is typically used for definitive confirmation of the feasibility of the surgery before proceeding to rejoin the tubes. The different surgical procedures involved in tubal ligation reversal get their names from which portion of the tube is being joined to another portion. The portion of the fallopian tube closest to the uterus is called the isthmus. The middle of the tube contains a narrow canal that allows the fertilized egg to pass through to the uterus.
