Gladys Deans retired from the hospital in November 2012 after 24 years loyal service.

Gladys worked in the Outpatients Department and was held in high regard by Consultants, patients and colleagues alike.

She received gifts of jewellery from Dr Stewart and her colleagues to mark her retirement.

Mrs Dallas, Hospital Director, wished Gladys a long and happy retirement from all her many friends at the North West Independent Hospital.  It was a pleasure to have Gladys as an employee all these years.  She was a very professional and committed employee and will be greatly missed.

Gladys enjoyed her years at the hospital and said, 'I would like to thank Dr Stewart and all the staff for their gifts and kind words.  It was a pleasure to work for the North West Independent Hospital, a company who show the same amount of care towards their staff as they do towards their patients'.

North West Independent Hospital in Ballykelly is one of the longest established private hospitals delivering high quality healthcare since 1989.  With advanced surgical and medical facilities our highly qualified staff are committed to providing excellence across a wide range of specialities.

We decided a few months ago to hold a series of GP evenings in the Roe Park Resort in Limavady.  We invited local GPs and those within a forty mile radius to attend these talks.

Our first talk was by Mr Zola Mzimba MBChB FRCS (Ed) FRCS (Gen Sur) Consultant General & Vascular Surgeon who spoke on Vnus Closures – the new non surgical way to treat varicose veins.  The talk was a great success and all GPs who attended felt it was most beneficial to them.

Our second talk was by Dr Iris Menninger MRCOG CCT Consultant Obstetrician who spoke at length on ovarian cancer.

In January of this year there was a huge campaign on the television highlighting the fact that GPs were finding it difficult to distinguish between the symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Ovarian Cancer.

In her talk, Dr Menninger explained the different methods used to detect the onset of Ovarian Cancer and the avenues open to GPs to have their patients seen and the symptoms checked quickly and efficiently.

Dr Menninger held a question and answering time afterwards and all GPs agreed that it was an excellent and helpful talk on a subject which is so very important to the wellbeing of their patients.

Our next talk will be held in May 2013 and will be on the subject of back pain.  More to follow …..
